Many of you like me have made New Year resolutions before right? Year after year, again and again, my question to you is how much is changed and how closer have you got to your desired destination since your last New Year Resolution? Is there really the need to keep on making new resolutions at the turn of every year? As a matter of fact we all can attest to the fact that there has been a missing ingredient to bringing into reality all that God wants us to be and what we truly desire. So what is missing? Ever asked yourself? If you have I entreat you to ask again, if you haven’t I dare you it’s about that time you asked.

If every year you have a new resolution, it means your life has no laser beaming effect and that in itself is a problem. The bible clearly makes us understand that a double minded person is what…? Read James 1: 8 for the rest of the text. Again Jesus illustrates the importance of singleness of the eye, if your eye be single… what shall happen? Read Matthew 6: 22 for the full dose. There is nothing more powerful than having a single definite purpose and going after it with all your might and resources year after year.
What do you think will happen to the rock called “obstacle” when consistently struck by the chisel of patience and the hammer of perseverance daily, weekly, monthly and yearly? Your guess is as good as mine, in no time you shall speak the words of King Zerubbabel saying “Who art thou, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain in Jesus Name.”
The next thing I will like us to talk about is what the bible says in Roman 12:2 “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind… read on. Transformation is the key ingredient for change; it also means new ways of doing the old things to achieve more results. It points out an underpinning principle for change, which is dealing with one’s comfort zones.
“That part of you which attempts to convince you of all the reasons why you can’t do something. Everyone has a point at which things tend to become just a little less comfortable, if not downright fearfully the closer they get to it.” – Lisa Jimenez M.Ed.
The above text quoted from my friend and mentor Lisa, advocates getting away from the part of you which convinces you that you can’t do something. While focusing on your inherent nature of just doing and not bothering whether someone is looking or saying something. And always remember that “you cannot let someone else’s opinion of you become your reality” – Les Brown. So what happened to the natural risk-taking ability that you were born with? Life happened, Circumstances occurred, Disappointments experienced, and you, like me, began to let fear creep in. Slowly and surely, fear began to grow until it was bigger than your purpose, bigger than your faith. I dare you not to make any New Year Resolution this and any other year but resolve to revisit the original intent God had for placing you on this earth. Most of us have become nothing short of a little child who has map drawn and shows it to God, jumping up and down, saying father look! father look! I have drawn a map for my life.
The father finally bends over to take a look, smiles and follows it with a grin like some old grandpa; He may say one of these “child that is a photocopy of the map I have for yourlife keep moving on” or “scrap that map you have there no wonder you keep going in the wrong direction after all these years.” Go back to Him the creator and ask Him to forgive you firstly for taking your own course of direction, ask Him to come lead you to fulfill His ultimate purpose for your life, and let’s compare the results of this coming year 2015 and see if it will not be your best year ever. I can hear someone still ask so JC how I can put all that you’ve said into practical steps:

  1. Determine through prayer and the leading of the Holy Spirit what God’s ultimate purpose is for your life.
  2. Resolve to give it your all in this and the coming years; remember nothing is achieved at almost, everything is achieved when you give your all.
  3. Come face to face with your comfort zone until you discomfort your comfort zone that is holding you back.

God Bless you Richly! Yours truly JC Mantey
